Definition
The midgame is the part of the game between the opening and endgame. Typically it is considered to be between moves 20 and 40, or thereabouts.
Midgame is considered to be the hardest part of the game, where advantage can often swing from one player to another a multiple of times.
Strategy elements you want to be considering in this phase of the game include:
Computers usually have small midgames because their large search depths have more relevance in the endgame and their deep opening books are advantagous in the opening.
